Ballet Like Flowers is a light comedy, telling the experience of a young volunteer working in a village of the Miao ethnic minority group in Western China. The design inspiration comes from the unique embroidery style of Miao, it integrates Miao’s stitches technique, mountain-shaped structure in Miao architecture, hive-like hexagon pattern, Classical Chinese painting and other visual elements together, interpreting the idea of ‘home’ in Miao’s culture. It also tries to use a 2-dimensional style to create shapes in the correspondent relationship between the concept of ‘layer’ in digital drawing and the progressive layout in the theatrical rigging system.
